Happy Holidays: 6 Favorite tips for you

Jan 02, 2023

For all my fellow HR Colleagues, Talent Acquisition Teams, Headhunters, and Recruiting Agencies.

Hiring Leaders and Candidates.

I was going to write a card, and then I thought, let’s do something special. I hope you like it.

Part 1, here it goes.

1.- Make peace with your ego and ask for help.

We often want to go to the field alone, thinking we can battle everything. The reality is that as much as we say we can, always are easy and different ways to achieve more.

Here are some ideas:

Hire a team, consultant, recruiting firm, technology consultant, etc.

Train your team.

Hire a coach for you.

Hire a coach for your team.

Buy and deploy new technology.

Read a book.

Learn a new skill.

Look for colleagues’ support.

Ask for feedback.

2.- Focus on your strengths and maximize them.

We should work on what we do best. It is our core performance; we are so good at it that we feel effortless to do it.

Here are some ideas:

It feels easy, almost natural,

We do it fast.

We feel proud of ourselves.

The time flies.

We even help others.

We receive compliments.

3.- Watch out for weaknesses, look at them with compassion but do something to improve.

These areas make us feel insecure, worried, anxious, weak, and depressed.

Here are some ideas:

Be objective and look for tangible info about feedback that helps you.

Look inside you at difficult moments. If they are consistent, ok, it is a weakness or area of improvement. Breathe and look for solutions: Books, online courses, in-person training, coaching and mentoring, feedback, etc.

Choose one or two areas of improvement and work on them.

4.- Appreciate your effort. If it works, celebrate as crazy; if not, give yourself a chance to learn and try new tactics.

Here I am going to emphasize cases in the recruiting world.

Let’s say you have a productive, happy team. Well, yes, then. Big Congrats and continue doing what you do.

If you are looking for a job and are taking too long to land your ideal job, something is wrong. We have a hot market, and companies are looking for talent. Change the way that you are doing it and look for help.

If you do not have suitable candidates, well, in a candidate market, we are doing something wrong.

Here are some ideas:

Be objective and look for tangible info about feedback that helps you.

5.- Apply what you learn.

Yes, reading and study are essential. However, the best way to reinforce that learning is through experience. Have fun!

Here are some ideas:

Utilize that new skill in a meeting or with your team.

Share with your team the new skills and help them challenge you to put them into practice.

Share with your family and friends the new skill.

Showcase your new skill every chance you can.

Review your new results by applying your new skill.

6.- Do not take things so personally.

Take from others valuable feedback, be humble to recognize what is true even if it hurts and put in the trash what you know is not valid and does not help you.

Tip: Consistent feedback can be your best friend, although it seems to be wearing the Dark Vader custom and is painful and scary at the beginning.

Here are some ideas:

Not everything is about you and against you.

People talk about their experiences, and we do not know what they are.

It is in your hands to decide whether I take it or not.

Focus on the profound message, the intention.

Do not assume.

Clarify the message or the intention.

Happy Holidays! Thanks for reading me. Tell me more about your thoughts and experiences.
